Art is extremely personal and everyone looks for what appeals to his or her heart and mind. Art that is designed for us is uniquely ours, and when it is passed to the next generation, a part of us will remain with them.
More than any other type of art, I love creating portraits, especially for those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. It has brought comfort to me by just imagining my Mother at home in her new life, and the process of creating those scenes on canvas has enabled me to connect with her in a visual way - as though I'm seeing her as she is now.
Many people would like to own art that relates to them, their loved ones or to something in their own lives - an expression of their individuality - not simply a piece by someone who knows nothing about them, their tastes, feelings or special memories.
Commissioning an artist to paint a portrait is not only for the wealthy. There are a surprising number of people who would like to have portraits of themselves, their families and their special pets. They are even commissioning pictures to celebrate weddings, new homes, birthdays, anniversaries and other life-changing events.
There are many reasons for commissioning a work of art:
Memorial portraits
Unique Christmas, anniversary or birthday presents
Turning an ordinary wedding photo into an oil painting
Giving friends a pen and Ink, watercolor or oil painting of their first home or their school/university
Remembering a favorite vacation or view with a colorful work of art
For the person who has everything: A painting of his car, motorcycle or other treasured possession, particularly a beloved pet
A still life of chosen objects or a painting of favorite flowers
Pictures of wedding flowers, unusual events, baby's first portrait
Prints and Greeting Cards made from a commissioned painting
A Painting of Yourself and Your Loved One
This is especially helpful in times of bereavement when you discover that you have no quality portraits of the two of you or of your loved one with the family. Even if you have no pictures of yourself with a loved one, you can send several photos of each of you (it's helpful if they are lighted from the same side, but not necessary) and you can be painted together with the background of your choice - your home, a room in your home, a garden, a seaside spot - the variety is endless. Also, if you would like to see a particular person or pet portrayed with an angelic companion or in an angelic form, that can be done as well.
How to commission a work of art
This is a very simple process if the commission does not involve portrait sittings. Just email us at angelart@finestplanet.com and tell us about the picture you have in mind and include your name and phone number. Then I'll give you a call to discuss size, composition, your ideas for the background, prices and arrange for registered receipt of your photographs or you can scan them and send in an email. Scanned photos should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi. (Most commission artists on the web only correspond with you by mail or e-mail. This doesn't allow the rapport to develop that I feel is necessary for a portrait or a piece of art that is personal to you. Your tastes, feelings and unique ideas should be reflected in the work.)
The price of each piece depends on the number of images, subject matter, length of time involved and artistic medium used, but does not include framing. A 50% deposit is required when your order is confirmed and the remaining 50% is payable upon receipt of the finished art. The initial deposit is refundable in the unlikely event that the artist is unable to begin the commission.
A pencil sketch showing the composition will be emailed to you for your approval. Next, a more detailed second drawing in color will be sent, again by email. When this is approved the work is continued. (You can actually have more input in the art if you would like. At times I've sent as many as six drawings so that it is exactly what a person has envisioned; and for pets, objects or landscapes, the same method applies.)
Finally, after you have approved the last drawing, the art is completed on your choice of unframed canvas or archival art paper, rolled, placed in a sturdy tube container, insured and shipped by USPS. Final payment is then due upon delivery to you of the finished work.
Last but not least, if you would like to exhibit your portrait or commissioned painting or drawing on this web site, I'll be happy to include it in the "Commissioned Art Gallery".
